Amy Rempel (piano)
Jeremy Allen (bass)
Jason Tiemann (drums)

With Chatter, the Rattle Jazz Series introduces the extraordinary talent of Amy Rempel. With a background in contemporary new music and improvisational jazz, Amy’s musical sensibility is broad and adventurous. Strongly supported by bassist Jeremy Allen and drummer Jason Tiemann, she tackles the seven carefully chosen pieces on her debut outing with great skill and dexterity.

Canadian-born pianist Amy Rempel launches her solo recording career with CHATTER, the sixth CD in the Rattle Jazz Series. Winner of a Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award, an Indiana University Jacobs Scholarship, and the Manitoba Music Educators Young Composer contest, Amy has been invited to perform in a number of illustrious festivals and events across the USA.

In 2009, Amy was Adjunct Lecturer of Jazz Piano at Indiana University, where she completed her Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies and was awarded the Performers Certificate for her outstanding Masters recital performance. While completing her degree, she served as the jazz piano Associate Instructor, and studied with Luke Gillespie, David Baker, Pat Harbison, and Brent Wallarab. Amy completed her degree in Jazz Piano Performance at the University of Memphis in December 2006.

Jeremy Allen has served on the faculty of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music since 2006. An extremely talented and versatile musician, he has performed extensively with such jazz luminaries as Fred Hersch, David Liebman, Kenny Wheeler, Bob Brookmeyer, Randy Brecker, Tim Hagans, Eric Alexander, Jerry Bergonzi, Rich Perry and George Garzone.

Born into a musical family, Jason Tiemann grew up surrounded by music and was encouraged to develop an open-minded appreciation of the arts. As a freelance musician, Jason has performed in a wide variety of musical situations from the avant-garde to the modern big band, mainstream pop, progressive jazz and rock and roll. Over the years, he has performed and/or recorded with the likes of James Moody, Randy Brecker, Joanne Brackeen, Dick Oatts, Norah Jones, Mose Allison, Rich Perry, Rufus Ried, Jean-Michel Pilc, and the Benny Goodman orchestra.

Jason and Jeremy are obviously very musically empathic, and their ability to second-guess Amy is nothing less than uncanny. The trio have already started work on their second recording project, and Rattle definitely intends to grab it!

"Auckland's Rattle label -- which has an unimpeachable track record in releasing beautifully produced, impressively packaged, award-winning contemporary classical and elsewhere albums -- now makes a serious foray into jazz..."
